Dubbo City Regional Airport breaks 200,000 barrier

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Dubbo City Regional Airport has broken through the 200,000 annual passenger barrier for the first time in history.

The total number of passengers flying to and from Dubbo in the 12 months of the 2015/2016 financial year was 203,294 eclipsing the previous record set in 2007/2008 by more than 10,000 people.

Western Plains Regional Council Administrator Michael Kneipp said Dubbo City Regional Airport has enjoyed a very positive period of growth in the past two years and passengers have responded strongly to additional services.

“It is clear that passengers value the ability to fly direct to the capital cities of Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne,” Mr Kneipp said. “These direct services make flying a more attractive proposition not just for people from the immediate area of Dubbo, Wellington and Narromine but further afield such as Orange, Parkes and various towns in the wider Orana region,” Mr Kneipp said.

“The direct services also provide a great opportunity to bring visitors direct to Dubbo for events, conferences and to visit the region’s great attractions,” he said.

Mr Kneipp said compared to 2014/2015 there has been a 7.6 per cent increase in passenger numbers and the past 11 months have been the highest respective monthly totals on record.

“These figures signal the strength of the region and the opportunities for inbound tourism and business as much as proving opportunities for local people to travel to a variety of destinations,” Mr Kneipp said.
