Dubbo Regional Airport is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive experience for every traveller. We understand that airports can feel busy and overwhelming, so we’ve put in place services, facilities and resources to help make your journey as calm and comfortable as possible. This page gives an overview of the assistance available.
Disability Access Facilitation Plan
Our Disability Access Facilitation Plan sets out how we support travellers with both visible and hidden disabilities, and how you can help us meet your needs. It includes:
- What to expect before you travel and at the airport
- Accessibility of facilities

Before You Travel
Planning ahead can make your journey easier and help us support you more effectively. If you have additional needs, we recommend:
- Contacting your airline at least 48 hours before travel to confirm any assistance you require (for example, a wheelchair or mobility aid, lifting equipment, medical equipment or oxygen).
- Letting your airline know if you are travelling with an assistance animal or specialised devices.
- Considering a practice visit to the terminal so you can become familiar with check-in, security screening and boarding.
- Reviewing our online resources to help you prepare for your trip.
Early communication with your airline and the airport helps us provide the most appropriate support on the day.
Boarding and Airline Assistance
From check-in to boarding the aircraft, your airline is responsible for providing mobility and boarding assistance. Depending on your needs and airline policies, this may include:
- Use of airline wheelchairs and lifting equipment
- Assistance moving through the terminal and onto the aircraft
- Early boarding on request so you have more time to get settled
- Use of your own wheelchair or mobility device up to the gate (subject to airline requirements)
Please contact your airline directly to arrange special assistance, discuss medical or mobility requirements, or confirm device policies.
Airlines generally require at least 48 hours’ notice for special assistance and use of medical or mobility equipment.
Hidden Disabilities
At Dubbo Regional Airport, we are proud to support the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program. This initiative helps make air travel more inclusive by providing a simple way for passengers to discreetly let staff know they may need extra time, patience, or support.
How the Sunflower Program Works
By wearing a Sunflower lanyard, our staff will recognise that you may benefit from:
- Clear and calm communication
- A slower pace through airport processes
- Reassurance and understanding during your journey
Please note: the lanyard does not provide a personal escort or wheelchair assistance. If you need this level of support, please contact your airline directly before you travel.
Plan Your Journey
To help make your travel experience smoother and more predictable, we offer several resources designed to support travellers with diverse needs. These tools can assist with planning, communication, and navigating the terminal on the day of travel.
Our Accessible Travel Resources
- Terminal Sensory Map | Highlights areas of low, medium, and high sensory levels, along with key facilities. This can help you choose the most comfortable path through the terminal.
- Communication Boards | Visual tools using icons, images and simple text to support passengers who are non-verbal, have communication difficulties, or speak a language other than English. These are also available at the security screening point.
- Social Stories (Arrivals & Departures) | Step-by-step visual guides that explain what to expect at each stage of your journey, designed especially for travellers who benefit from structured, predictable information.
