Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has welcomed the announcement by Link Airways of additional direct flights connecting Dubbo with Brisbane and Melbourne from Sunday 27 February 2022.

An additional 14 flights each week will improve connectivity for business with flights leaving early and returning in the later afternoon putting the two cities within easy reach for residents for medical appointments, leisure and easy access to connecting domestic flights.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said airlines rebuilding in the region was a positive step in COVID-19 recovery.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the aviation industry hard but airlines putting more flights into the market is reflective of Link Airways’ confidence in our region as well as passenger confidence,” said Mayor Dickerson. “January 2022 saw an increase to 50 per cent of the pre-COVID passenger numbers in Dubbo, which is a good sign of recovery and indicative of this being the time to rebuild.

“The Airport has developed strong partnerships with airlines including Link Airways, and support the rebuilding of flight services as strongly as we can. Increased travel choice for residents and visitors whether it be for business, medical or leisure, is important to keep our region vibrant and competitive.”

While January saw an increase in passengers, the annual numbers since 2020 are 22 per cent of pre-COVID figures.

Link Airways Manager Jeff Boyd said the announcement was evidence of their commitment to re-growing air services in the region, in line with expected increased demand over coming months.

“It’s fantastic that we’re able to build on what is already a well-supported Brisbane destination,” said Mr Boyd. “And now that passenger numbers are building, albeit slowly, we are confident that adding extra flights into the market will be well-received and we’re happy to be able to provide consumers with more choices.

“We’d also like to take the opportunity to thank our loyal customers, the community and Dubbo Regional Council for the support they have shown.”
